What to do
Step 1: Use the school’s form first
Most aid offices require their PJ or SAP form plus a letter. A standalone financial aid appeal letter without the form is often returned unprocessed.
Step 2: Pick the correct appeal type
Special circumstances / PJ changes need and cost of attendance. SAP restores eligibility after academic failure. Competing-offer appeals are institutional policy, not federal law.
Step 3: Document dollars and dates

Step 4: For SAP, own the academic plan

PJ for 2026-27 aid uses 2024 tax data by default. Show what changed after that tax year with year-to-date income or one-time expenses the FAFSA could not reflect.
